It appears that Mitt Romney weighed in on the Chick-fil-A controversy with his wallet.
While the candidate remained publicly silent on the chicken chain’s anti-gay marriage stance, his campaign spent $500 at an Atlanta Chick-fil-A outpost during the height of the national debate, Politico reported.
His campaign’s purchase – which was reported as a “meeting expense” in monthly campaign filings – came days before Aug. 1, which was declared “Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day” by former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee. Chick-fil-A president Dan Cathy had ignited the national firestorm in mid-July when he told the Baptist Press that the company was “guilty as charged” when it comes to supporting “the biblical definition of the family unit.” On Aug. 1, hordes of same-sex marriage opponents crowded Chick-fil-A locations in a show of support for Cathy’s stance.
