Frane Selak
Frane Selak: Escaped from a derailed train, a door-less plane, a bus crash, a car into flames, another 2 car accidents... then won Million Dollar lottery!

Luck has always been on his side or vice versa for croatian music teacher Frane Selak (born in 1929), who is well known around the world for as many fatal accidents as spectacular escapes. The first of his numerous near-death experiences began on a cold January day in 1962, when Selak was on a train to Dubrovnik: it suddenly derailed into an icy river, killing 17 passengers. He managed to escape with a broken arm, minor scratches and bruises.

Tell me what lies on the other side.

Very quietly, the doctor said, 'I don't know..

Not bad for mostly being able to tell good “one liners”.

March 5, 2013 - Out of this world! Bob Hope’s space age Palm Springs home! It looks
like a home from the future. And now, Bob Hope's legendary Palm Springs mansion
has gone on the market for an eye-watering $50m. It is the most famous property owned
by the legendary comic, who was extremely passionate about architecture.

Boldly go where no one has gone before: Bob Hope's famed Palm Springs home is up for sale for $50m.

The California home was designed by renowned Modern architect John Lautner especially for the funnyman and his beloved wife Dolores. The concrete, steel and glass house was built in 1979 and has about 22,000 square feet of living space, and its unique design is somewhat reminiscent of the USS Enterprise. Buyer's will get to boldly go where no-one except the Hope family has gone before, as this is the first time it has gone on the market. It was sited on San Jacinto mountain to have a spectacular view overlooking the Coachella Valley, and its curving copper ' mushroom' roof plays off the shape of the nearby mountains.

As you may know, Cruz Construction started a division in North Dakota just 6 months ago. They send every Kenworth (9 trucks) we had here in Alaska to North Dakota and several drivers. They just bought two new Kenworth's to add to that fleet; one being a Tri Drive tractor and a new 65 ton lowboy to go with it. They also bought two new cranes (one crawler & one rubber tired) for that division.

Dave Cruz said they have moved more rigs in the last 6 months in ND than Cruz Construction moved in Alaska in the last 6 years.

Williston is like a gold rush town; they moved one of our 40 man camps down there since there are no rooms available.

Unemployment in ND is the lowest in the nation at 3.4 percent last I checked.

Man with a face on the back of his head
Edward Mordrake was reportedly a young
man that lived during the 19th century. At
birth, Edward was stricken with a bizarre
medical condition. He was born with an
extra face on the back of his head. The
face could laugh and cry, but not eat or
speak. Edward begged his doctors to
have the “demon head” removed, because
it whispered Satanist language to him at
night. However, no doctor would attempt
it. The description of Edward Mordrake’s
condition is somewhat similar to those of
Chang Tzu Ping and Pasqual Pinon.
Sadly, Edward Mordrake committed
suicide at the age of 23.

Carolyn, a rich blonde, buys a new automatic Jaguar XKR Sport. She drives the car perfectly well during the day, but at night, the car just won't move at all.

After trying to drive the car at night for a week (but without any  luck), she furiously calls the Jaguar dealers and they send out a technician to her.

The technician examines the car and finds nothing wrong with it. So he turns to the blonde and asks: "Ma'am, are you sure you are using the right gears?"

Full of anger, the blonde replies: "You fool, you idiot, how on  earth you could ask such a question? I'm not stupid you know!

Of course I am using the right gears; I use D during the day
and N at night."

A dog mourns for his owner
ROME - Since his owner died two months
ago, Tommy the dog has not missed a
single mass in the small church in southern
Italy where his mistress's funeral was held,
Italian media said Wednesday.
When the bells of the Santa Maria Assunta
church begin to toll each afternoon in San
Donaci near Brindisi, the 12-year-old
German Shepherd sets off from the village
to get himself a front row seat next to the
altar, Il Messaggero newspaper said.
His owner, who was known in local dialect
as "Maria tu lu campu" -- "Maria of the
fields" -- had lived alone with Tommy and
three other rescue dogs, who used to
follow her faithfully on her daily rounds
and have now been adopted by the village.
After following his mistresses coffin up to
the church on the day of her funeral,
Tommy has returned daily, sitting quietly
throughout masses, baptisms and
funerals, according to local priest Donato
Panna, who now wouldn't do without him.
True companionship has no termination

A Fridge Without Using Electricity!
This is incredible idea is an extension of
the pottery water cooling vessels used
though the millennia.
This is Mohammed Bah Abba's Pot-in-pot
invention. In northern Nigeria, where
Mohammed is from, over 90% of the
villages have no electricity. His invention,
which he won a Rolex Award for (and
$100,000), is a refrigerator than runs
without electricity.
Here's how it works. You take a smaller
pot and put it inside a larger pot. Fill the
space in between them with wet sand, and
cover the top with a wet cloth. When the
water evaporates, it pulls the heat out with
it, making the inside cold. It's a natural,
cheap, easy-to-make refrigerator.

By 2050, there might be a Japanese elevator to space
Decades ago, people only dreamed about
traveling to space. Then they only dreamt
about landing on the moon. Both of these
became reality though. And then humans
built a space station. So it would make
sense that things that we can only dream
about today will someday be real. One
such thing is an elevator to space. Sound
crazy? The Japanese are currently working
to create just that. More specifically,
Obayashi Corp is hoping to build an
elevator to space by 2050.

According to a news report, a certain private Catholic school was recently faced with a unique problem. A number of 12-year-old girls were beginning to use lipstick and would put it on in the bathroom. That was fine provided it was of a natural or neutral skin tone, but after they put on their lipstick, they would press their lips to the mirror leaving dozens of little lip prints.

Every night the maintenance man would remove them; and the next day the girls would put them back. Finally, the principal, Sister Mary, decided that something had to be done. She called all the girls to the bathroom and met them there with the maintenance man. She explained that all these lip prints were causing a major problem for the custodian, who had to clean the mirrors every night (You can just imagine the yawns from the “little princesses” can’t you?).

A very interesting article. The electronic age has produced electronic criminals.

1. A friend left their car in the long-term parking at the airport while traveling and someone broke into the car. Using the
information on the car's registration in the glove compartment, they
drove the car to the people's home in Pebble Beach and robbed it. So I
guess if we are going to leave the car in long-term parking, we should
not leave the registration/insurance cards in it, nor your remote garage door opener.
This gives us something to think about with all our new electronic technology.

What was Faith’s motivation? Like most dogs, food. In this case, it was peanut butter. Amazingly, Faith evolved from hopping around to walking. Her story is a testament to the fact that a physical deformity does not necessarily suggest a lack of mental toughness!

Chicken infected with antibiotic resistant bacteria
My son was a promising young athlete at the age of fifteen with dreams of playing baseball in the major leagues -- until he ate a chicken ceasar salad that changed his life.
The chicken he ate was contaminated with what is usually a treatable bacteria that lasts two to four days. But the strain of bacteria was a "superbug" -- an antibiotic-resistant strain of bacteria. That's why antibiotics failed to cure Sam. He was sick for a month, lost thirty pounds, and was too weak to try out for baseball.
My son's horrifying experience with "superbug" contaminated meat jump-started my activism in food safety, especially when I found out that kids across the country are fed the same potentially dangerous meat in school lunches.

Colombo - A 38-year-old Sri Lankan man, whose wife had died three months ago, appears to have the ability to breastfeed his two infant daughters, doctors said on Wednesday.

The man, from the central town of Walapone, lost his wife during childbirth. "My eldest daughter refused to be fed with powdered milk liquid in the feeding bottle. "I was so moved one evening and to stop her crying I offered my breast. I then realized that I was capable of breastfeeding her," the man admitted.

Dr Kamal Jayasinghe, deputy director of a Sri Lankan government hospital, was quoted as saying it was possible for men to produce milk if the prolactine hormone became hyperactive.

Constructed some time in 2011, the circular pedestrian bridge in Lujiazui, Pudong District of Shanghai blends an aesthetically pleasing design with environmental necessity. Essentially saving many Shanghaians the toil of traffic and turnabouts, the infrastructure literally bridges the gap between work and play, as it connects users easily with office buildings, cafes and restaurants. This design comes as part of China’s latest wave of environmentally-charged innovation, market-based adaptation and CO2 emission reduction, some of which has been rewarded by the World Wildlife Federation as some of the best efforts to combat climate change.

The extraordinary scene was captured by photography student Casey Gutteridge at the Santago Rare Leopard Project. The student was photographing the leopard for a course project, was astounded by the mouse's behavior.

He said: 'I have no idea where the mouse came from - he just appeared in the enclosure after the keeper had dropped in the meat for the leopard. He didn't take any notice of the leopard, just went straight over to the meat and started feeding himself.'

'But the leopard was pretty surprised - she bent down and sniffed the mouse and flinched a bit like she was scared. In the meantime the mouse just carried on eating like nothing had happened.

Even a gentle shove does not deter the little creature from getting his fill... 'It was amazing, even the keeper who had thrown the meat into the enclosure was shocked - he said he'd never seen anything like it before.'

Project owner Jackie James added: 'It was so funny to see - Sheena batted the mouse a couple of times to try to get it away from her food.' But the determined little thing took no notice and just carried on.'

Sheena was brought in to the Santago Rare Leopard Project from a  UK  zoo when she was just four months old. The African Leopard can be found in the continent's forests, grasslands, savannas, and rainforests.
